Marking 18 years from the post-war opening of Sarajevo International Airport for civil air traffic

It has been 18 years since re-opening of Sarajevo Airport for civil air traffic after the war destruction.
Celebration of the post-war re-opening organized on 15 August 1996 was attended by Alija Izetbegović, who was then the Chairman of BiH Presidency, and Warren Christopher, US Secretary General.
First operations at the newly opened airport were taken by Croatia Airlines on air service Zagreb-Sarajevo-Zagreb and Turkish charter airline Top Air on air service Istanbul-Sarajevo-Istanbul.
From that moment started planned reconstruction of Sarajevo International Airport, what consequently caused a rising interest of the international airlines to start flying from this airport.
The post-war year 1996 ended with 26.000 passengers and from that moment till today almost 8 million passengers have passed through Sarajevo International Airport. Due to enthusiasm and dedication of both its management and all employees today, this airport is recognizable by its quality and accuracy of its services, safety and regularity of air traffic, and well known as a respectable partner to airlines and other users of its services, what has been proven with numerous local and the international rewards.
We expect to end the business year of 2014 with success, too, hoping to reach a new record of Sarajevo International Airport, which is a figure of 700.000 passengers.
